Awesome coverage George! Your straight forward and no BS approach helped us voters get to know and support some really great candidates. I’m also shocked at how low the voter turn out was. We, and by we…I mean ALL of us, need to sort that out. See you in another 4 years…?
Thanks so much for your coverage, I found it comprehensive and helpful. Do you know if the Area B will be re-counted since the margin was so small?
Thank you so much George for assembling this data, and for your thorough coverage in this election.
Thanks for all your hard work, George!
I’m very pleased with the results. Our Council is experienced and enlightened and, although I don’t agree with every decision they make, they cooperate and compromise in order to get things done for residents and taxpayers. There’s nothing worse than bickering, vengeful, ‘old-guard’ politicians and we’ve been very fortunate here in Courtenay to not have that for a number of years. I’m also shocked and ashamed that our voter turnout was so low. What is going on here? And what on earth could be so important that residents would willfully pass up four opportunities to participate in our local democratic election? I wish you could get to the bottom of that one, George.
Hi George,
Thanks for your insights. Cumberland leads in local democracy. Leslie did a great job, but it is good to see the next generation taking on the huge challenges of affordable services and housing.
Comox council appears to be nicely balanced.
Rural representation for Area A,B,C is more balanced now. Hopefully a balanced CVRD board who will provide direction on the essential services of water, liquid and solid waste. Affordability always the issue.
Thanks to all who participated in the democratic process.
Good work George, and thank you for the well researched guidance. In Courtenay the runners-up were not that far behind. We need to engage in respectful discussion with other community members who see the issues through a different lens.
Municipalities are creature of the Province. Our MLA’s need to step up and reform to create relevance.
It would be interesting to see the demographics of the 28.5% of eligible Comox voters who voted. With that information, perhaps ways to engage some of the 71.5% of eligible Comox voters who didn’t exercise their right to vote could be devised.
A great sadness over the low turnout.
Such a privilege to be able to vote.
Oh Courtenay we are in for interesting times.
The voting process in Courtenay’s Filberg Centre was quick and organized. Would have been happier if the lines had been longer – where was everyone?
Yes very disappointing turnout , hope they all standby there promises
Just wanted to say a huge thank you for your reporting on this election. I’m thrilled that Take Back Comox Valley got spanked – but concerned about the terrible turnout in the Valley. I wonder if that is the long-game goal of these right-wing groups: to make the average voter disengage from elections completely. I sure hope not.
Anyway! Well done, George! Your coverage has been stellar.
